BEYONCÉ is worth about $450 million, so she could buy pretty much ANYTHING and no one would bat an eye . . . but if she bought an NBA team, that might surprise some people.
The Houston Rockets are for sale, and “Bloomberg” says Beyoncé is very interested. The team is valued at over $2 BILLION, so she’d probably just be making a minority investment as part of a larger ownership group.
Beyoncé hasn’t commented, but she’s a pretty big basketball fan. She regularly shows up courtside at New York Knicks games, and she’s supposedly a fan of the Rockets as well, because she’s from Houston.
Rockets owner Leslie Alexander surprised some people when he said he was looking to sell the team earlier this summer. He’s one of the NBA’s longest-tenured owners, having bought the team for $85 million in 1993.
That said, he’s in his 70s now . . . and if he can get $2 billion for the team, that would be an incredible return on his initial investment.
Jay-Z owned a small piece in the Nets for a few years, but in 2013, he sold his stake to start up his Roc Nation sports agency. And Justin Timberlake owns a piece of the Memphis Grizzlies.
