There’s a 45-year-old guy in Asheville, North Carolina named Walter Beals, who recently lost a ton of weight by climbing stairs on his lunch break.
He used to be about 440 pounds. Then he started climbing the stairs at the courthouse where he works, and lost 170 pounds. So he’s down to about 270 now.
He walks up eight flights . . . takes the elevator back down to save his knees . . . and then does it 12 more times. Which is like walking to the top of a 100-story building.
A while back, he started comparing it to stuff to stay motivated. Like, how many floors would it take to climb to the top of Mount Everest? Then once he passed that, he decided to go the whole way to OUTER SPACE.
He had to climb the equivalent of 50 miles to do it . . . or 21 THOUSAND flights of stairs . . . and finally got there last week. He wore an astronaut costume, and a bunch of friends waited for him at the top with a sign that said, “Welcome to Space.”
But here’s the part he didn’t expect. He met a woman online a while back named Susannah, who thought the stair thing was a cool idea. So she asked if she could come climb stairs WITH him. And now they’re a couple.
There’s a 44-year-old guy in New York named Peter Shankman who does business seminars all over the world. So he racks up a lot of frequent flyer miles, and uses most of them to get plane tickets for his friends and family.
But he’s also using a bunch of them this year to buy tickets for complete STRANGERS who can’t afford to fly home for Christmas.
He’s been asking people to explain why they deserve a free ticket on the site Imgur.com. (Pronounced image-er.)
The ones who get the most votes by 5:00 P.M. Eastern today will get the tickets. So HE’S not choosing who gets them, the Internet is. (It’s probably too late to get in on the action, but this story explains how to apply for a free ticket.)
He says he has enough miles to fly three or four people round-trip. Or more depending on where each person’s going.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because he did the same thing last year. And he also sent six people home for the holidays back in 2013, which inspired OTHER people to do it. So about 25 people ended up getting free tickets that year.
By the way, if YOU have a bunch of frequent flyer miles you want to donate to someone, there’s actually a website you can go through now called Abroaders.com.

I like milk and cookies. Everyone likes milk and cookies. But now we know it’s possible to like them TOO much.
A 43-year-old guy named Robert Smith from Lakeland, Florida carjacked a woman at a gas station last week. He told her, quote, “Have [an effing] good day” . . . and then he sped off at 100 miles an hour.
His first stop was another gas station, where he stole a bunch of milk and cookies. His next stop? Another gas station, to steal more milk and cookies. And after that, he kept hitting gas stations . . . but ONLY taking milk and cookies.
The cops eventually caught up to him, and he admitted to carjacking the woman and stealing all the milk and cookies. But it’s not clear if he ever ate or drank any of them.
He’s only been charged with carjacking so far.

I figured you should hear this story once, since this guy is going to hear about it every single day for the rest of his life.
A guy named Walter from Argentina went on a trip to Brazil with his wife Claudia and their 14-year-old son last week. And as they were driving home, they stopped at a gas station to fill up. And Claudia got out to buy some cookies.
But Walter didn’t realize it . . . he thought she was still sleeping in the backseat. So he and his son drove off and left her behind. And when she tried to call him, it didn’t work . . . since he was going through a rural area and he didn’t have a signal.
So she finally called the police, and they took her to the police station. And Walter drove SIXTY MILES before he finally realized she was missing. Then he turned around to go back and get her, but she’d been stranded for over two hours by then.
And the cops say she was FURIOUS. Quote, “There was no physical assault . . . but she was very angry. She was moaning at him for taking so long to realize.” She also kicked the car when he showed up.
20-year-old Tara Monroe is a junior at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. She got a DUI in March and her license was suspended. But she needed a fast way to get around campus, and she says, quote, “riding a bike sucks.”
So . . . she bought a pink Barbie TOY JEEP off Craigslist. It runs on a 12-volt battery and maxes out at five miles per hour. It also looks ridiculous when an adult is driving it.
She’s been spotted in it all over the campus . . . which has led to TONS of people posting pictures of her on social media. She says, quote, “This is the best way I could’ve gotten my 15 minutes of fame.”
